From The Vault - Weapon X

As Kristian never tires of telling me when I go into Comic Guru “I’m trying to run a business you slaaag! Stop posting Garth Ennis interviews and start advertising the stock or I’ll cut ya!” *. With this in mind Comic Guru is proud to announce our latest feature, From The Vault. The idea behind this is that each week we will delve into the heavily guarded vaults at Guru HQ and bring you the very best comics we have to offer. This week’s offering is Marvel’s excellent Weapon X series, back in stock after a number of months and ready to be consumed by you the comic reading public.

Written by Frank Tieri, The Weapon X saga follows everyone’s favourite angry Canadian mutant Wolverine and the horrific experimentation which lead to his skeleton being infused with indestructible adamantium and his memories wiped. Comic Guru currently has every issue in stock, including the one shots and the rare 4 issue ‘Age of Apocalypse’ series. If you missed out the first time around there really is no excuse not to pick this series up.

Seeker signing starts at 12pm tomorrow!

Just a reminder to all fans of literature out there that Andy Frankham-Allen, author of the Rainbow Award nominated vampire novel Seeker, will be at Comic Guru from midday tomorrow signing copies of his book, as well as copies of his Doctor Who short stories. Andy will be joined by artist Steve Upham, the man responsible for the Seeker cover art.

Seeker is set in primarily in Southend and follows the exploits of Willem Townsend, a London based entrepreneur who, feeling shackled by the mundane routine of his own life, embarks on a relationship with a mysterious stranger he meets over the internet. But after arranging to meet him Will and those closest to him are thrown into a world where not everything is as it seems. Seeker is the first book of the Garden Saga series, and its potent mix of thriller, mystery and horror already has critics buzzing.

Friday Video Club

As part of our continued pursuit to bring you the best in geek content, we at Comic Guru are proud to announce our Friday Video Club. Each week (on a Friday predictably enough) we will bring you a video which we think you’ll enjoy. They may be long or short, top quality or utter tripe, but each and every one has been selected because we think you guys will enjoy it.

So to kick off this brave new world of audio visual entertainment we have selected everyone’s favourite time travelling alien Doctor Who, appearing in what I can assume is the first ever Doctor Who anime film. Despite extensive research I have been unable to come up with any information about the origins of this little slice of anime gold, so if you do know who is responsible for it please drop us a line and we’ll be happy to give them the credit.

Leaked Avengers art reveals enemies!

With the rumour mill for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers movie starting to build pace, some leaked concept art for the film’s computer game tie in has revealed just who Captain America and co could be squaring up against next summer. Although all indications appear to be that publishers THQ have cancelled the tie in for ‘unknown reasons’, the guys over at WouldYouKindly have released these images which show Norse god Thor squaring up to what appear to be a couple of Skrull!

For those of you who don’t know the Skrull are a race of shape shifting aliens whose previous comic appearances have seen them tangling with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X men and the Silver Surfer. How exactly they will fit into the plot of the Avenger’s movie is still a matter of mystery, but a possible alliance with returning villain Loki can’t be ruled out at this stage.

Either way The Avengers is shaping up to be the hit film of 2012, so why not take drop into Comic Guru and pick yourself up a few back issues ahead of next summer? Kristian will be more than happy to help you out, and you can look all superior in front of your friends when you go see the film with them!

Reboots galore!

Unless you have been hiding under a comic proof rock for the past few months, you will have likely heard something about the planned series relaunches by the comic industry's 'big two' Marvel and DC. Both companies are attempting to increase their sales figures by giving fans a chance to come in on the ground level with reboots of major characters and origin stories. Ahead of these releases, Comic Guru attempts to give you a breakdown of what to expect.

First to DC, who have taken what can only be described as a 'ballistic' approach to their reboot. Starting this week every character in the DC universe is going to be rebooted, with even major players such as Batman and Superman being given a fresh start. And that's not the only fresh start DC has gone for, with many of the titles being handled by relatively unknown artists and creators. While some see this as a cynical ploy to save money, it could also provide us with some fresh and interesting takes on characters that may have gone a little stale in their old age.

Meanwhile Marvel have gone for a smaller reboot and chosen to focus on their Ultimates universe, although they did decide to kill off one of their major characters in order to get there. With Peter Parker webslinging in heaven the Spiderman mantle is being taken over by Miles Morales, whose introduction has already caused a stir amongst the mass media due to his ethnicity (half black half Hispanic) and sexuality (creators have not ruled out making the character gay in future). The Ultimates Reborn launch will see Ultimate versions of Spidey, the X men, the Ultimates and Hawkeye all hitting the stands in the next few weeks, although the 'tit for tat' nature of Marvel and DC's relationship means we can't rule out a wider scale Marvel reboot in the next few months.
