From The Vault - 30 Days Of Night

With Halloween almost upon us this week’s From The Vault has a supernatural twist to it with IDW’s hardcover omnibus of ‘30 Days Of Night’.

Originally a three issue story from Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, the story follows a group of survivors in a town in the north of Alaska. This area is so remote that in the winter the sun doesn’t rise for 30 days. So when a savage pack of vampires turn up and start feeding on the population the remaining survivors must find a way to defeat their undead foes without the aid of sunlight. Since the initial run of this story in 2002 the ‘30 Days’ universe has expanded to include several other stories and a successful film adaptation. This hardcover collection includes the original 30 days of night, Dark days and Return to Barrow, and is available in store or online for £18.99.

But if vampires aren’t your thing then head on over to the website and take a look through our full range of stock, where I’m sure you’ll find something to ‘sink your teeth into’.

From The Vault - X-men movie tie in books

Cast your mind back to the year 2000. Tony Blair was still in power, the Olympic Games were draining government funds in Australia and a phenomenon was starting in cinemas across the world. This miraculous juggernaut has been gathering speed ever since and is now a permanent fixture in the summer release schedules, annually flooding our screens with gods, monsters and men in odd looking costumes. I am of course referring to the superhero movie, and its relatively humble beginnings with Bryan Singer’s take on Marvel’s X-men. From Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen locking wits as Professor X and Magneto to Hugh Jackman’s big screen debut as Wolverine X-men was the first of the new wave of comic adaptations, and it can be argued that without the film’s success (it grossed $296 million worldwide) we wouldn’t have seen studios taking a gamble on other comic properties.

To tie in with the release of the film Marvel issued three exclusive preview comics which dealt with the back stories of Wolverine, Rogue and Magneto, with all three stories receiving only limited runs in order to maintain exclusivity. At Comic Guru we currently have all three in stock in both the original and exclusive covers, so if you are interested in owning a rare piece of cinematic memorabilia then either head over to the official Comic Guru website or visit us in store.

FVC - Walking Dead web series

Ahead of the premiere of season two of the fantastic comic adaptation The Walking dead on October 21st, producers NBC have released a web series focusing on the origins of one of the best known zombies of the series, a walker known to fans of the series as ‘bicycle girl’. This festering sack of decaying flesh is one of the first zombies Rick Grimes actually manages to get a close look at after he wakes from his coma, a moment when he realises that the creatures he first assumed were monsters are in fact humans who have been unwillingly reanimated after death.

This mini series focuses on the events preceding the girl’s zombification, showing us her futile attempts to escape the carnage with her young family. All the episodes are on AMCTV.com but as we’re outside the USA we are forced to use Youtube for our viewing pleasure. Below is the link to episode one, and if you check out the official Comic Guru channel you will find the other five.
