FVC - The Avengers Sweded

As some of you may be aware, the first official trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie has recently been released. Having watched it approximately 500 times since I dropped, I can assure you all that it looks 25 different flavours of awesome and has left me counting down the seconds to the theatrical release. Yep, I loves me some superheroes. But I loves me some parody even more.

The idea behind ‘sweding’ (a term lifted from the Jack Black/Mos Def film ‘Be Kind, Rewind’) is taking films or TV shows and remaking them on a microscopic budget. Part homage and part lambast, many classic properties have felt the sweder’s wrath over the past few years. Today’s Friday Video Club is a perfect shot for shot remake of the Avengers trailer made using cardboard, toys and a whole lot of love. Check it out.

From The Vault - Vampire Batman!

Every so often, we get something in stock at Comic Guru that literally stops me in my tracks. It might be a variant cover or a particularly obscure piece on memorabilia from a much beloved TV show, but the common link will be that they are so unbelievably cool that my brain goes into a temporal meltdown through sheer geek awesome. This week’s From The Vault features such a piece. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Batman Vampire Mini Statue!

From the DC direct line, this hand-painted, cold cast porcelain mini statue measures approximately 7.25" high x 8" wide x 5" deep and is packaged in a 4-color box. A vampire version of Batman, the statue comes complete with some huge black wings coming out from underneath the cape, glowing red eyes and fangs. The statue is mounted on a base featuring the tombstone of Bruce Wayne, adding yet another layer of geek cool to proceedings.

I genuinely cannot recommend this statue highly enough, especially at just £89.99. This statue would be the ultimate Halloween gift for a Batman fanatic. Alternatively, check out the rest of our stock via the link below.

Songs from Spider Street signing with Mark Howard Jones (October 29th)

In the run up to Halloween local author Mark Howard Jones will be signing copies of his unsettling and unforgettable new book 'Songs From Spider Street' from mid-day on Saturday, October 29th.

A cornucopia of cool creepiness, the book begins in an abandoned Paris populated only by a lonely woman and her eight-legged 'friends', before taking you to places where giant prisons are made of ice, where trains journeys have unexpected destinations, where love is murder, where being a clown is no laughing matter, and hospitals that cure you are unknown, finally returning to a spider-haunted future for the chilling climax.

Given the success of our previous signings and also the undoubted quality of Mark’s book, we are expecting a big turnout for this event. If you wish to avoid the rush and purchase your copy of SFSS ahead of time we currently have them in stock in store, meaning you can pick one up and read it before the signing, Then when you turn up on Saturday to get it signed you will be able to dazzle Mark with your opinions and insights!

In addition, we are proud to announce that Simon Wyatt will be in store on November the 5th to sign copies of his new graphic novel ‘Unbelievable: The Man Who Ate Daffodils’. More information about this signing will be on the blog in coming days, but this gives you a chance to mark your diaries now!

From The Vault - 30 Days Of Night

With Halloween almost upon us this week’s From The Vault has a supernatural twist to it with IDW’s hardcover omnibus of ‘30 Days Of Night’.

Originally a three issue story from Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, the story follows a group of survivors in a town in the north of Alaska. This area is so remote that in the winter the sun doesn’t rise for 30 days. So when a savage pack of vampires turn up and start feeding on the population the remaining survivors must find a way to defeat their undead foes without the aid of sunlight. Since the initial run of this story in 2002 the ‘30 Days’ universe has expanded to include several other stories and a successful film adaptation. This hardcover collection includes the original 30 days of night, Dark days and Return to Barrow, and is available in store or online for £18.99.

But if vampires aren’t your thing then head on over to the website and take a look through our full range of stock, where I’m sure you’ll find something to ‘sink your teeth into’.
